Summary

As part of the work being carried out on the Billy-Diamond Highway between km 460 and km 538, the Société de développement de la Baie-James (SDBJ) has made the quarry located at km 454 available to the proponent, Construction DJL inc. The proponent has determined that the current size of the quarry and surrounding area are insufficient and do not allow for the installation of crushing and screening operations, aggregate stockpiling, or the operation of a mobile asphalt concrete plant. To provide the space required for all these activities, the development of a supplementary area adjacent to the quarry is proposed. This 11.03-hectare area would accommodate the following components:

a mobile asphalt concrete plant;
areas for the temporary stockpiling of granular construction materials;
a topsoil stockpile area for material stripped during site preparation;
a weigh scale at the entrance to the access road;
storage containers;
a 1 km access road;
a setup area for a mobile crushing and screening unit.

The proponent anticipates that development work will begin in fall 2027 and the quarry will be in operate for a period of two years.
