Summary
The proponent would like to build a permanent residence on the site of the Eastmain-1 workcamp. The original Hydro-Québec camp was designed to house up to 2,000 workers and was gradually dismantled between 2011 to 2015. The proponent would like to modify the camp to meet Hydro-Québec’s current needs. Of the 50 buildings making up the camp, 18 will be kept in operation and 31 will be dismantled. Two buildings will be built or refurbished, namely the residence (~100 rooms) and the sports and community center. Outdoor facilities will also have to be adapted to the new layout. This will include modifying roadways, construction of parking lots and the installation of new landscaping, such as pedestrian paths, lighting, tables, benches, and garbage cans.
