Summary
The proponent plans to mine an iron and vanadium deposit located in the Mont Sorcier area, approximately 17 km east of downtown Chibougamau. The Mont Sorcier mine will be an open pit operation with benches and stopes. The project will include the following infrastructure: waste rock and overburden stockpiles areas, processing plant, mine tailings, and a mining wastewater treatment system. The proponent plans to transport the iron concentrate produced by train to the Saguenay area. Rail transportation will involve the construction of a new 46 km-long rail spur to connect to the existing rail infrastructure. The proponent plans to begin exploiting the mine in 2028 for approximately 21 years.
