Summary

The proponent plans on reopening of the old Troilus gold and copper mine located about 175 km north of Chibougamau in the Nord-du-Québec region. One of the particularities of the Troilus mining project is that it will be located partly on the former Troilus mine (a site whose restoration is advanced) and partly in the natural environment. The proponent intends to extract ore from three open pits: two pits that were previously mined and are currently in the restoration process (J4 and 87) will be enlarged, and a new pit will be created in the southwest zone of the project (South-West pit). An ore processing plant will be constructed at the mine site as well as a dome-covered ore storage area. The ore will be concentrated on-site in the form of gold ingots and wet copper powder. The existing tailings management facility will be reused. The construction of new dams is planned, as well as the diversion of a watercourse. Existing waste rock piles will be used and new waste rock and overburden piles will be constructed, as well as ditches and water collection ponds in contact with waste rock, ore or overburden. The estimated duration of mining operations is 10 to 17 years.
