Summary

The project consists of storing and refashioning up to 1500 m3/year of concrete, cement and bituminous concrete residues on a 1.14-hectare quarry owed by the proponent and for which a certificate of exemption was issued on March 28, 2019. The demand for granular material is growing and, according to the proponent, this project will provide an alternative material while reducing the quantity of concrete waste in landfills and the emission of greenhouse gases related to the transportation of such waste to the south and new granular material to the north. The concrete waste will be transported to the quarry for storage on a watertight surface, with runoff control. The concrete residues will be broken up with either a jackhammer or a crusher, depending on the size of the pieces, to produce different types of gravel that will be separated by sieving.
