Summary
The project involves storing, sorting and refashioning uncontaminated and contaminated (treated) wood, as well as metals. Demand for wood and metals is growing and, according to the proponent, this project will allow the recovery of residual material, while reducing the amount of waste in the landfills and promoting the sustainable and economic development of the region. The tailings will be transported to the ecocentre where they will be stored on a sealed surface (concrete or asphalt) to prevent leaching and contamination of soil and groundwater. Untreated wood will be separated from other waste to limit cross-contamination. Subsequently, the wood residues will be crushed and piled up for resale in bulk or sold for energy purposes. The metals will be sorted and stored on a slab or in containers before being sent for recycling.
