Summary

The Barrette-Chapais Ltée thermal plant, as well as two bark silos and a wood dryer, were destroyed in a fire on December 23, 2022. The proponent wishes to proceed with the reconstruction of the thermal plant and the installation of wood dryers on the Barrette-Chapais site, along Route 113 east of the town of Chapais. The new thermal plant would be installed on existing facilities, about 100 meters northwest of the old burned plant. There are no plans to install access roads or build additional storage areas. The reconstruction of the infrastructure is therefore aimed at maintaining sawing and drying wood operations in Chapais. At the same time, the company will take advantage of the work to integrate a more modern dryer technology, allowing drying continuously, as opposed to the previous batch-based drying technology.
