Summary

The project involves the opening of a mining complex comprised of two underground copper mines, Corner Bay and Devlin, as well as the reopening of the former Copper Rand industrial complex. The project is located within the city limits of Chibougamau approximately five kilometers from the center of town. The three sites are located on the shores of Lac Chibougamau; Corner Bay and Devlin are in the southern sector of the lake and Copper Rand in the northern sector near Lac aux Dorés. In the Devlin and Corner Bay projects, related facilities such as waste rock piles, ore stockpiles, a topsoil pile, a crushing plant, and management and water treatment installations will be developed in the mine areas. At the Corner Bay site, an access ramp, underground galleries, and a surface water pond are already in place due to past exploration work.

The ore extracted from the Corner Bay and Devlin sites will be shipped to the Copper Rand site, which will be dedicated to ore processing and tailings management. The Copper Rand site includes a former mine, a tailings site and a disused industrial complex that closed in 2008. The new industrial complex will be built on the footprint of the old facilities, most of which will be rehabilitated.
